BEIJING, May 26 (Xinhuanet) -- The Information Office of the State Council Monday issued a white paper on the history and development of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. With abundant historical materials and latest statistics, the white paper features the history of Xinjiang and the great achievements made by people of all ethnic groups in the region under the leadership and support of the central government. The 55-page white paper, which is titled History and Development of Xinjiang, consists of ten parts including Xinjiang Has Been a Multi-ethnic Region Since Ancient Times; Diverse Religions Coexist and Spread in Xinjiang; The Administration of Xinjiang by the Successive Central Governments; Origin of the "East Turkistan" Issue; The Economic Development of Xinjiang After the Founding of New China; Progress in Education, Science and Technology, Culture and Health Work; The People's Living Standard and Quality of Life Have Been Enhanced; Upholding Equality and Unity Among Ethnic Groups, and Freedom of Religious Belief; Establishment, Development and Role of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps; and State Support for the Development of Xinjiang.
