Xi Jinping Meets With Secretary-General of Gulf Cooperation Council Abdul Latif Bin Rashid Al Zayani

On January 19, 2016 local time, President Xi Jinping met in Riyadh with Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdul Latif Bin Rashid Al Zayani .

Xi Jinping pointed out that the GCC is the most dynamic regional organization in the Middle East and the Gulf region. Since China established relations with the GCC 35 years ago, their relations have been maturing. Cooperation between the two sides enjoys solid foundation and bright prospects. It is hoped that the two sides will forge ahead and pool more consensus to elevate the level of bilateral relations and promote China-GCC mutually beneficial cooperation to bring more benefits to the people of the two sides. The two sides should maintain the momentum of high-level exchanges, consolidate mutual political trust, strengthen communication and coordination, and realize the docking of respective development plans and strategies. China is willing to launch mutually beneficial cooperation with the GCC countries in combination with the "Belt and Road" construction. China is willing to be a stable and reliable energy supply market for the GCC countries in the long run, and construct together with the GCC an all-round energy cooperation pattern covering both upstream and downstream. The two sides should deepen cooperation in infrastructure construction, communications, electric power, investment, finance, aerospace, nuclear power, renewable energy and other fields. China welcomes the restarting of the negotiations on the China-GCC Free Trade Area, feels glad to see substantial progress in the negotiations, and looks forward to the early establishment of the free trade area. The two sides should improve the level of security cooperation, and strengthen communication and coordination in regional and international affairs.

Xi Jinping stressed that China supports the efforts of the GCC countries to maintain regional peace and stability, and supports the constructive role of the GCC countries in solving regional hotspot issues. It is hoped that countries in the region will, on the principles of mutual respect, non-interference in each other's internal affairs and good-neighborly friendship and through dialogue and cooperation, jointly ensure and share peace and development in the Middle East and the Gulf region.

Abdul Latif Bin Rashid Al Zayani expressed that the GCC has always maintained good relations with China. All of the GCC countries agree to have closer contacts with China and propose to elevate the GCC-China relations to special strategic partnership so as to enhance political mutual trust. All the GCC countries agree to restart the negotiations on the GCC-China Free Trade Area and are glad that the negotiations on trade in goods have been substantially finished. The GCC expects to deepen economic and trade relations with China and strengthen bilateral cooperation under the framework of the "Belt and Road".
