Wang Yi Exchanges Congratulatory Messages with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov of Russia

On October 2, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi exchanged congratulatory messages with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov of Russia, warmly celebrating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations.

In his congratulatory message, Wang Yi said, over the past 70 years, China-Russia relations have withstood the test of changes in the international situation, become increasingly mature, tough and firm, reached the best level in history and set a good example of harmonious coexistence and win-win cooperation between major countries and neighboring countries. At present, under the strategic leadership of President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin, the political mutual trust between the two countries has been further consolidated; cooperation in various fields has been constantly developed in depth, and the social and public foundations of friendship for generations have become more solid. The two sides have maintained close and effective coordination and cooperation in international affairs, jointly adhered to multilateralism, opposed unilateralism and bullying, firmly defended the international system with the United Nations (UN) as its core and the international order based on international law and injected strong and positive energy into the maintenance of world peace and stability and international fairness and justice. In June this year, President Xi Jinping paid a historic state visit to Russia. The two heads of state jointly elevated bilateral relations to a new level of comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era between China and Russia, and determined the new connotation and development goals of relationship between the two countries featuring mutual assistance, in-depth integration, pioneering innovation, and win-win outcomes for all. Standing at a new historical starting point, the Chinese side is willing to continue to work with the Russian side to implement the consensus reached by the two heads of state, further consolidate political mutual trust, increase mutual support on issues involving each other's core interests, ensure that China-Russia relations will not be affected by any external disturbances and influence, continue to develop steadily at a high level, and make greater contributions to the common development and revitalization of the two countries and the promotion of peace and stability in the region and the world.

Sergey Lavrov said in his congratulatory message, since the founding of the People's Republic of China 70 years ago, China has made remarkable achievements in the fields of politics, society, economy, science and technology, and its prestige and influence on the international arena have been increasing. In 1949, the Soviet Union became the first country in the world to recognize the People's Republic of China. Over the past 70 years, relations between the two countries have gone through an extraordinary development path, reached the highest level in history, and become a model of partnership with real equality and trust. The Russian side highly appreciates the close and rich cooperation between Russia and China in international affairs and is willing to continue to work with the Chinese side to deepen the coordination of foreign policy, more effectively defend the common interests of the two countries, create a good environment for the development of the two countries, and maintain world peace, security and stability.
